She had tried to stand up earlier but they didn't allow them to.
"So dad, if you had met mom in another situation would you not be so awkward with each other?" Andrea asked and Alexander stared at the kid, he raised his eyes to Sapphire and their eyes met and they stared at them for a while before he averted his eyes to stare at the kid.
"What do you mean another situation?" He asked
"We are not dumb, you both were never in love because you do not behave like those cute couples," Andrew said. 'Daddy is the only one that makes an effort while mom chases him away."
"Are you both in an arranged marriage?" Andrea asked and Sapphire choked.
"No, we are not. We met some time ago and dated for a while before we decided that I should move here with you guys," Sapphire quickly replied before Alexander could talk.
"So why aren't you guys close? We expected daddy and mom to be all these disgusting couples who make you want to puke. But you guys aren't a couple like, you don't take us on a picnic, you don't go to the amusement park and we don't have a family day," Andrew poured out and Sapphire stared at him in surprise.
It was at that moment that both adults realized that the kids thought that Alexander is their biological father even when she told them that he isn't.
The hesitation in their voice made her realize that even though they say they don't, they have always wanted a father or at least a father figure, their pride and the need to look mature and act older made them not tell their mother about it.
She truly felt sorry for her children right there and then.
"Your mother and I were in a fight all these days, we had a little misunderstanding and it affected you guys. We are truly sorry for our immature behavior," Alexander said holding the kids hand and Sapphire stared at the guy in surprise, she didn't expect him to do that.
The guy may love the kids more than he truly lets out.
"Yes, and next time you feel something, you should make sure to tell me about it, you shouldn't keep anything from me. If I am not around you should tell dad, he deserved to know," she said and all the three stared at her in surprise, she is practically giving Alexander permission to be close to and near her kids and she rarely does that.
Even Luci and Claire waited for months before they got her trust.
And she just knew Alexander for a month or so.
"Bad parents are those who don't know anything about their kids and bad kids are those that do not tell their parents things. We don't want to fall in any of these categories, do we?" She asked and the kids shook her heads.
"Now would dad tell us a story?" Andrea asked and he thought for a while before nodding when he saw the pleading look on their face.
Sapphire stared at the three of them and felt some sort of joy. The kids stared at the man attentively while he told them the story. They looked like a father and his kids staring at each other like that.
They have never looked so content in a while, Andrea took Sapphire's hands and put it in Alexander's hand and crossed it over them.
The guy stared at her for a while before continuing the story he was telling them with a smile on his face. She knew Alexander is a very handsome man but he looked more laid back and approachable when he was in casual wear and a smile draped over his lips.
The smile fitted him quite well and it's just a pity that he is very stingy with it, well maybe not around her, he smiled at every single opportunity he found.
Alexander stood up and told the kids to get into each of their beds after he ended the story, he kissed the kids forehead after he told them goodnight and kids also kissed his cheeks.
They bid both adults goodnight and turned off the lamp.
Alexander closed the door with a small smile on his lips and began to walk away when Sapphire stopped him, she was holding his hand and they both stared at it before she quickly released it.
"Can you spare me some minutes?"
Later they sat at the balcony with juice in Sapphire's hand while soda sat on the table in front of Alexander.
They sat in silence for a while.
"I appreciate you doing that in the room earlier but you didn't have to do anything if it makes you absolutely uncomfortable," Sapphire said.
"But if it makes me just uncomfortable?" He asked and Sapphire stared at him for a while before she remembered that she said 'absolutely'.
"I mean, uncomfortable rather,"
"I won't say that if I won't act on it, of course we didn't get in any fight or have a misunderstanding. We are just going to make sure that when the kids are near we are not distant and awkward, they are unbelievably smart and besides that they really needed it and I won't do those innocent kids any evil," He said as he stared at the lit up city in view.
"I would have asked you if you're okay with it but I thought you would be okay with anything that makes the kids happy,"
Sapphire stared at the guy in front of him and thought that he is not as bad as she thought, he may be distant and cold at first but he loves who he loves and would be good to them and that's is better than pretending to love everyone while cursing them behind their backs.
"I think you would make a very good father," she said and he raised his brows at her. " Your kids would be lucky to have you," she said and he moved closer to her. She rested her back on the steel and stared straight into his eyes when he was in front of her.
"What did you mean by my kids?" He asked in a whisper when he was so close to her and his sweet scent engulfed her. He moved his head closer to hers and she tipped her head back. He put his hand on the chair she sat on and caged her.
"Do you really think we won't consummate our marriage," his voice dropped an octave and Sapphire felt like there was a fire nearby radiating with the breeze and making her hot.
"Or are you planning to run away as soon as you find a way to divorce me or escape?" He continued and her heart started beating very loudly in her chest, she is very thankful that Alexander can't hear it or he would know how badly the situation flustered her.
He stood straight and took a step back.
"Because if you are, you are taking the wrong step. I am not divorcing you and if you find an escape and go to the end of the world, I would search all over till I find you, you know why?" He said staring intently into her eyes with a smothering gaze and she shook her head.
"Because even though you haven't walked down the altar, you are already Mrs. Aldine, legally married to me," he smirked.
"You are my wife."
