Chapter 122: For Her Own Good

She had informed Luci that she would be late and they had marveled over the amount of work she had to do when she video called them.
Them being Luci, Claire and her kids, Alyssa and Alicia were still not back from work which made Sapphire wonder if work was as hectic for them as it is for her.
She told the kids to be good and apologize about the fact that she won't be there throughout the day and when they go to sleep but they told her that they understood and she believed them.
Her kids are part of the smartest kids to ever exist, the look and sound mature more than their age and the look.
She talked to them for an hour and got back to work.
Her phone dinged and she turned to take her phone. Alexander was also texting her occasionally and she was glad for the small smiles he made appear on her lips.
Are you done with your loads of work?
That was his question and she told him that she was almost done with it.
Do you want me to come and pick you up?
He replied immediately and she thought about it before shaking her head.
No, don't. I came in my car, I would text you when I get home if you haven't got home and I would see you if you have. Thanks Alexander.
I am only trying to tick all the boxes in the to do list of a boyfriend but you are welcome sweetheart.
She chuckled at his text and sent a heart to him before turning to her work.
She cracked her neck and rolled her shoulder an hour later, finally she had been able to get through the pressing ones, she could deal with the rest later.
She stood up to leave when she saw the package that Belle dropped earlier that day, she had already forgotten about it.
She dropped her bag and picked up the box, she opened it and stared at the flash drive inside it in surprise, this is the least of the things she expected there.
She moved back to her laptop and inputted the flash drive, she went through it and found just two files in it.
She clicked the first file and waited for it to play when she saw that it was some recording of some sort.
'Grandmother, don't play innocent." She heard a voice that was Melissa's and that piqued her interest, she wondered what her sister is up to again.
'What are you talking about?" That was the voice of her grandmother.
'You were the one that threatened Oliver, you have been trying to sabotage their relationship since the beginning. That one time he was caught in a scandal with that prostitute, you were the one that set him up," Melissa replied and Sapphire could feel her heart thumping heavily in her chest. She had a feeling she is not going to like whatever it is that she is going to hear but she couldn't bring herself to press the pause button.
'And what has that got to do with anything?"
'The public kept pointing at Heather as the friend who snatched her friend's long time fiancé. The people truly involved in the circle view me as the scum sister who helps a betrayer to get her sister's fiancé.
Little do anyone know that you are the grandmother that orchestrated everything.
You are the one that scout Heather out as the most plausible person to do what you want, it was all your plan to get them away from each other and you keep tabs on the development every single week.
You are worse than me, grandma." That was Melissa's voice and Sapphire felt like it was a knife piercing her heart open, she felt like her heart had been pulled out, played with and marched on, the numbness she felt after going through that rollercoaster of pain was like no other.
It didn't hurt her to this extent when Oliver announced to her that she would get rid of her baby and that he is getting married to her best friend while they laughed, at least she saw that one coming.
Maybe Melissa was just saying nonsense or trying to lie about what she never did. Her grandmother didn't like Oliver and she knew that but she thought that the extent of her hostility should be arranging and trying to frame her in a scandal, not going through a long process that would shatter her, letting her have a mental wound that would never heal.
'I only did what I had to do. It was needed, I couldn't let Sapphire lose her head too, she already lost her heart to that man," Madam Emiliana said in a very calm tone and Sapphire felt the tears gather behind her eyes, her eyes burned with unshed liquid and she could feel her nose tingle.
She made it sound like she was doing it for her, like it is to help her.
'On a trip my foot, cut yourself from any connection with world my ass! Can reach you only through the telephone in your study?" Melissa scoffed mockingly. 'You contacted me every damn time and even knew that we drove her out of the house!"
'It was for her own good." Her words were curt and simple but it only made a hollow laughter bubble from Sapphire's throat.
For her own good? What exactly was good for her? Why didn't anyone ask her what she thinks is good for her and instead decide to be the judge of it? For her own good and but she ended up as a damaged individual.
The only person who had the power to do anything to her and cared for her is Alexander. He let her decide by herself what is good for her and never go and do the opposite even if what she chooses is bound to hurt her.
'I wonder what Sapphire would think about all of this?" Melissa asked.
'Don't you dare tell her about it!" Madam Emiliana said sharply.
'Then you should approve the budget, I would have no problem sealing my mouth shut then," Melissa answered. 'Should I go on about the rest of the things you did? How did you deliberately leave the mansion and lie about leaving the country when it was time to make Sapphire hate Oliver? How__" The recording cut itself off and Sapphire knew that the rest was in the second file.
She didn't have the strength to listen to every single thing she did, she did not know what she would do, what would happen to her then?
She just sat on her chair and stared ahead blankly, her brain was spinning and working overtime, telling her the things she should do like call her grandmother and ask about it, find out who sent the package to her, call Melissa and confirmed it maybe she could also get her to tell her what plan they had for now but her body remained motionless.
Those dreadful voices in her head had started talking again and loudly and she felt her mind getting cloudy and eyes blurry, it would break her apart if her grandmother was involved in the delivery of her miseries and misfortunes
Someone opened the door, probably Katie, Candy or Belle and told her that they were all going home but she just nodded, she was physically not capable of doing anything like talking. Luckily the person understood that and let her be or maybe they were just too tired, she didn't know.
She didn't know how long she sat there but it was the ringing of her phone that made her break through the numbness. She looked at the screen and saw that it was Alexander calling her, there were notifications of missed messages which were probably from the man himself.
She took the phone and picked up the call, held it close to her ear but said nothing. She had thousands of things running through her mind but she couldn't settle on any to say to him.
'You weren't replying to my messages, did you get tired of having me as your boyfriend?" He asked cheerfully, his voice was light and teasing.
'Come and get me away from here, Xander. I am still at work." She replied instead, there was a pause for a bit before she heard shuffling in the background.
'I am on my way, stay where you are," he told her, his voice turning serious but soothing. 'Do you want me to keep talking to you?" He asked softly but she didn't reply.
He didn't hang up the call and the noise in the background was her only company as he waited for him to come and take her.
