Chapter 32: Getting Past The Past

Sapphire watched as Oliver wrapped his hand around Heather's shoulder and led her away from the room but couldn't hear what they were saying, her eyes were blurry and her ears were ringing.

She was tempted to lie down there on the floor and take a breath while letting them do whatever they wanted to do to her but her love for her unborn child won't allow that.

It would eat at her conscience for the rest of her life if she allowed it, so with all the strength in her, which isn't much by the way, she tried to stand up but her leg failed her and she found herself on the floor again.

She could feel the perspiration all over her body and she knew that she was coming down with a fever. Doesn't matter, she crawled her way to the door and opened it, she crawled out of the apartment and locked the door behind her when she was out of his place.

She rested her back on the door and let out a breath before she continued her journey. She crawled all the way to the elevator because she had to get out one way or the other, she had to do so before Oliver or Heather got to her.

'She entered the elevator and forced herself to stand on her leg, groaning in pain when she felt the sting in her left leg.

She pressed the ground floor and fell back on the floor, Oliver's door opened and he came out of the room with Heather, they looked to their right and Sapphire's breath seized when their eyes came in contact with hers and the elevator door started closing.

'Please save me, I don't trust people to do that but you can at least do me this favor," she muttered desperately, her hand on her stomach as the elevator doors got closer to the other.

'Dont fucking run away, wait!" Oliver yelled running towards her with hand in front of him, just as he got very close to the elevator it closed and Sapphire collapsed against the wall.

She didn't know what kind of man she dated, she used to know him but he had changed, the Oliver she knew would go around dancing in his shorts once she told him the news of her pregnancy, not wanting to get rid of it.

The person she thought was her best friend gave her the worst shock of her life and wasn't even sorry about it.

She would take any number of bullets for them but turns out they were the one with the gun, how sarcastic was her life?

She got to the ground floor and a man helped her to the hospital when he saw how she was walking, he paid her bills and called Maxwell who told him that he would be there very soon.

'Fortunately, the babies are in good condition, they are quite the fighter, I would advise you not to put yourself through that much stress." The doctor said and her eyes widened.

'I thought it was a baby?"

'Yeah, maybe they saw one but it was two, hiding behind her brother," he said and Sapphire nodded, smiling with tears in her eyes.

Her kids were okay, they were okay even though they heard their father say that he doesn't want them they still held on.

'Thanks. My brave stars," she said with tears.

'What is it? Sapphire, are you alright?" Maxwell asked when he saw tears in her eyes. He just rushed into the ward she was in.

'Yeaah, I am. As alright as a lady with a sprained ankle could be,"

'I was so scared when a strange man talked on your phone, thought you got into a big accident,"

'Nope, I am okay, let us go home," she said and Maxwell nodded. He helped her to stand up and walk her out of the hospital while talking her ears off.

She knows that she should tell her family, at least the ones who can stand her, that she is pregnant but the hurdles she is passing through made her want to keep them close as her little secret and comfort.

She made it home safely and met Melissa on the staircase, she moved to one side, making way for her to pass but she had other ideas.

'I guess that you must be feeling so ecstatic, you are still wearing your gown, I wonder why it is all stained, why are there cuts all over your face, did you fight with someone?" She asked mockingly and Sapphire stared at her before shaking her head.

'No, I just sprained my ankle," she replied, staring at the floor, she didn't want to look into Melissa's face.

'Ah, I see. You were walking and sprained it, where was Oliver when you needed him the most, I thought he was your sweetheart. For God sake you guys are getting married next week," Melissa said and Sapphire nodded.

'He was at work," she replied and Melissa scoffed. 'Melissa, can I get to my room? I am putting a strain on my ankle by standing on it and I am very tired,"

'You can go, I am not blocking your way," Melissa said and Sapphire nodded, she started moving with the assistance of Maxwell who was glaring hard at Melissa.

'Glare any harder and your eyes would turn into a laser beam, Maxwell," Melissa said but Maxwell only rolled his eyes.

'I guessed Heather really did you bad, you should have dodge when she threw a glass at you then you wouldn't have to crawl to the elevator," Melissa said, staring at Sapphire who stopped instantly, she turned to stare at Melissa with red eyes and a surprised look.

'You are….." Sapphire said and Melissa shrugged. 'You knew about it? You were a part of it?"

'Duh! Did you think that Heather can do anything on her own? She is an idiot, she always needed help." Melissa said and Sapphire almost fell but Maxwell held her.

'Melissa!" She said, the pain showing in it and Melissa glared at her with contempt.

'What? I see that you are getting smarter, but your kindness is what would kill you, I mean, I fired Melissa and you employed her? Idiot. This is the consequence of turning yourself into Buddha" Melissa mocked, saying the word closely in her face.

'How can you…..how can….." Sapphire said.

'Amen," Melissa mocked and walked away. Sapphire kept staring at her as she walked away, Maxwell called her and led her to her room.

He stared at her as she lay down on the bed.

'You are going to be okay," Maxwell said and got out of her room.

Sapphire held her duvet and squeezed it tightly as she thought about her life that turned to trash within a day. Within ten , she had lost her fiance, her dignity, her best friend, her sister and almost her babies.

She would move on, she would forget about it and face the bad things that came her way alone. She knows that she would be humiliated and disrespected but she could deal with her as long as she could cut a deal with Oliver.

She would get out of his life and he would leave her kids, then everyone would be happy.

And for the first time since her life came crashing down on her, a tear leaked out of her eyes and made a line on her cheeks but with the tears still on her cheeks she said three words that she was determined to stick to, maybe for the rest of her life but definitely at the moment.

'I got this,"
