She tried to open her eyes even though it was as heavy as a lid, she could hear the sound of people going back and forth, the signature smell of a hospital and the bed that didn't feel like her bed.
She was finally able to open her eyes and it was blurry for a moment before everything started to become clear. She blinked rapidly, trying to clear her vision.
She was really at a hospital, she stared around and realized that it was the hospital room that she was admitted into when she sprained her ankle.
'What is happening, Why am I back here?" She asked herself as she stared up at the ceiling. 'Last thing I remembered was that I slept on my bed," she kept talking and tried to sit up but fell back because of the intense pain she felt , her leg was in a cast but the pain she felt was in her stomach and lower body.
The door opened and a doctor walked in, he smiled at her when she saw that she was awake.
'How are you feeling, you have been sleeping since yesterday when I came here, you fainted from exhaustion, you were under so much stress," He said and Sapphire just stared at him, trying to process what he was saying.
'Oh," The doctor said and smiled when she saw her confused look. 'I am Mike," he said.
'Doctor Mike, what day is today?"
'Today is Wednesday, why?" He asked to check her vitals. Sapphire wondered if she had been dreaming since yesterday, was it her mind that conjured up the image of Melissa joining hands with, were her demons so desperate to ruin her to the ground?
'Your vitals are okay now," he said and a frown descended on his face. 'But I have bad news," he paused and looked at her and sighed heavily.
'What s wong?" She asked, her heart pounding in her ears, after confirming that Melissa has nothing to do with it, she didn't know any more bad news.
'We are sorry but we lost your baby," he said and Sapphire's heart stopped beating momentarily. Her mind entered a shock phrase immediately.
'What..what are you talking about, the doctor said that my baby is okay, he said that I was really under a lot but they held on, it is not true…" she said desperately, not wanting to believe what this man was telling her.
Her head had started to ring and her body was already shaking but she is trying to keep calm, panicking won't do her any good.
‘Your baby is dead, why don't you accept that nobody wants to stay with you,' the voice in her head taunted and she screamed, holding her head between her hands and holding her leg close to her chest, rocking herself and breathing heavily as tears fell from her eyes.
She raised her head after crying for a long time and saw that the doctor had left. She saw her bag beside her and quickly opened it. She took her phone and dialed Maxwell's phone number.
It rang for a while before he picked it up.
'Maxwell?" She said,
'Sapphire, what is wrong? Why is your throat hoarse? Are you crying because of the pain in ankle?" Maxwell asked and Sapphire shared the phone in surprise.
'How did you know that about my ankle?"
'Did you get a memory loss?" He asked and Sapphire had never been more puzzled, she didn't know who to believe. 'Your ankle sprained and you called me to the hospital, took you home and led you to your room. Melissa stopped you on the way and said a lot of trash which for some reason affected you and you went to sleep," Maxwell said and Sapphire's eyes widened.
'It wasn't a dream?"
'What dream? Oliver came to the house and you went to meet him, told me that you were asleep in the car and came to take your bag, said he was taking you to his house," Maxwell told her and she wondered why she had no memory of it.
Something is not right, why would Oliver come to her house after their big fight and why would she enter his car and tell him to go take her bag.
If they really went to his house why would she open her eyes at the hospital with a weird pain and an unknown doctor that is telling her that she had been in the ward since the day before unless…..
Sapphire quickly stood up from the bed but fell on the floor as a result of the pain in her and the sheet tangled at her feet, her crazy mind didn't recognize the pain, she just wanted to clarify that she thought wrong.
She opened the door and stared at her right side but was met with an empty hallway, she turned to her left and what she saw made her lose her balance. Oliver and Heather were talking to the doctor with a satisfied smile on their face.
'What did you do!" She screamed. 'No, you didn't," she yelled running to them and held the doctor by his coat.
'Yes, we did, whatever you are going to do about it?" Heather asked, tilting her head to the side, with a smirk on her lips.
'You can't! You can't do that to my baby, I…." She yelled and her voice trailed off.
' We already did, so? What are you gonna do,"
'Stop the pity show already. We only removed those bastards, not like we killed you," The doctor said and yanked his cloth from her hand.
'How much were you paid? How much were you paid to ruin me!" She yelled. 'Why don't you kill me too, you should have killed me, not torture me like this," she yelled, her heart breaking as she thought of her babies, these three are heartless.
'She is making a lot of noise, why don't you find someone to drag her out," Oliver asked and the doctor nodded, he pushed her away and she fell to the ground.
Sapphire was motionless as she was dragged out of the ward, her brain was telling her to call Maxwell but she couldn't bring herself to move, not that her bag was with her.
They dropped her roughly on one of the chairs and threw her bag on her. She stared at it for a while before dialing Maxwell's number but his phone was switched off.
She buried her head in her hand and cried into it, mourning her babies that never got to see the light of the day before they were coldly murdered.
She managed to walk to the entrance of the hospital but she was hoarded by a lot of reporters, cameras and light in her face. She fell down to the ground when they moved too close to her, accompanied with their noise.
'Is it true that you are cheating?" A reporter asked and she almost doubled over, she wondered what was wrong with them, what they were talking about.
'You were seen with a strange man and he was holding intimately, it was revealed that you were cheating on Mr. Gray with him?"
'Why do you do that a week before your wedding?"
'Why are you in a wedding gown?"
'Did you really love Mr Gray?"
Her head was feeling dizzy again and everything was doubled, the sound in her head had intensified and she wanted to puke. Her eyes wandered to her cloth and saw that blood was coming from in between her legs.
She moved as if to run away from it and tears started falling from her eyes before she fell to the ground, she couldn't take it anymore.
Her vision was fading but she saw the doctor who treated her ankle, then she felt herself wheeled away, she heard the reporters yelling, she saw Heather standing at a corner with a smirk on her lips and Oliver's hand on her waist and more tears dropped.
Her goodwill had come back to bite her.
Maxwell read to her from some book that she couldn't remember that it's good to help but if it fails, it would back fire on you, you would be hounded and wounded, so much that you would lose all your energy and blood from the cuts.
Then you stop being human.
You would become numb to sorrow, other people's tears become a nuisance to you and will annoy you.
By that time, you are already a devil and a beast.
Sapphire wondered if she would become one of those or both.
'Hold on tight with all your strength, one of your babies is still there, I don't know how she is doing it but it is still there, even though its hold isn't tight and we have to do something about it but it all depends on you, so you have to be strong for her and make her survive,"
Those were the last words she heard before she fainted.
